we will be reading Theses on the Philosophy of History by Walter Benjamin available for download here: http://www.mediafire.com/?no9xaua8j6neayr
we will be watching videos, either two shorts (i didn’t catch what they were about) or the old but still very funny Surplus (featuring rice and beans), or perhaps some combination of the above.
also there is no plan for a reading for two weeks from now, so if someone gets inspired, now is the time to act! (or, before the 13th, anyway.) bring readings for us! bend us to your reading will! or maybe we’ll make another run at a good louise michel reading. who can tell.
the reading is the rest of desert (from page 17 to the end of the book -roughly 50 pages). there are probably still copies available at the long haul.
also, this is potluck week. we welcome good food, especially vegan, nut-free, and alcohol-free food.
we’ll be reading the sovereign self, a brand new, beautifully put together little egoist paper put out by some folks in tacoma, wa.
also, here is a reminder that we will have a special guest on november 15th, a charming and affable anarchist philosophy professor and contributor to the anvil, talking about language, spectacle, and morality.
we will be reading claire fontaine’s ready made artist article (link below). some of us hope that this will be the last of the poofy french theory for a while. but the boxing match was inconclusive, so we will have to wait and see.
we’ll be watching the second episode of “all watched over by machines of loving grace”. the second episode is about (among other things) the creation of the concept of the ecosystem.
the following week we will be discussing Call again (the ajoda version mostly, but read whatever version you can get or that you like), with increased scrutiny and the question of what would it be like to write something like that for the bay area…
the plan is to show episode one of adam curtis’ new series – watched over by machines of loving grace.
this assumes that someone will show up who can get the video to work off of a usb key. sigh.
we think that the following week will be the second episode, but we won’t show the third episode because it is not good 🙁 .
proposed by alden, with no explanation — an article by dauve, available online at the following locations…
come an hour early (7pm) to share food and non-reading-related conversation…
the reading for this week is http://theanarchistlibrary.org/HTML/Anonymous__Uncontrollable__Contributions_Towards_a_Conscious_Nihilism.html
also available at http://anarchistnews.org/?q=node/14647 (which does not get the full approval of the greeks, btw, but details have not yet been forthcoming).
