March 26–April 9: a three-session reading sequence

Use a sequence of sessions to move from close reading, to disagreement, to a synthesis that records unresolved questions.

Session structure

Move from passage to problem.

A reading group becomes more than serial opinion when each session keeps the text, its context, and the group's questions connected.

  1. 01

    Opening

Name one passage that changed or complicated the problem under discussion.

  2. 02

    Close reading

Stay with the wording long enough to distinguish the claim from a familiar paraphrase.

  3. 03

    Synthesis

Record the competing interpretations and choose what deserves another session.
