nov 9th

reading for the ninth is some excerpts from an interview of audrey goodfriend, who will be making a special guest appearance ( 😉 ) to talk about her history, and what allows someone to remain an anarchist for her whole life. there is one extra copy of the reading at the long haul.

reading for 11/2

first of all, this week is potluck week. there has been a request/thought that this month be pumpkin-themed, but more essentially, vegan and gluten-free is nice.
the potluck part starts at 7 pm.

Release to Us the Field

By Frére Dupont

In his consideration of Tiqqun’s Introduction to Civil War, Frére
Dupont identifies the group’s self-perceived “radical subjectivity” as an elitist trap which has long plagued ultra-left and avant garde
movements. As an ‘anti-political communist’ writer often identified
with Tiqqun, he explores how their construction of a we/they polarity
represents a crucial difference between them

for october 19th

to cater to the history fans among us (vastly outnumbered, poor things), we’re showing a movie of interviews about the spanish civil war. a couple of movies were mentioned so i’m not sure which one this is, but i’m sure it’s the better of the two.

as always, other topics of the day will undoubtedly come up.

plan for 10.5

potluck! starting at 7pm (an hour before the reading group starts)
gluten and dairy free preferred! come and share food and get some background for our anarchist awesomeness.

for the reading group part of the evening: we’re not going to read “burning the cassette” for this week; instead we’re busting out the guy hocquenghem and reading the screwball asses, which ties together the queer theory that we’ve been reading and “burning the cassette” (which uses a quotation from guy).
here is the link for reading on screen:

here is the link for printing out:

and here is a very positive, non-anarchist review:

enjoy!

reading for 9.28

we will be reading a pamphlet called burning the cassette, which is not available on line. there are extra copies in the long haul (bastard mail box – ask a staffer).
it’s french-inspired theory from some folks in the north west.
it might be a two week reading, since it’s long.
other upcoming possibilities are a brand new movie (of reminiscences by oldtimers about the spanish civil war), that was sent to audrey for special preview, and a reading from agamben.
(continuing the polarized trajectories of history and theory…!)

reading for 9/21

is no reading at all. we will be watching a movie, put out by the bernadette something (sigh)… and then talking about it for an hour.
i’m sure this would sound more interesting if i could remember anything that alden said about this movie, but it sounded like it would be good. so come and bring popcorn!

reading for 9/7

first tuesday of the month! potluck! woo hoo! come hang out and bring/eat food (preferably vegan and wheat free). make friends with the nice people (and the glowery people will just sit quietly in the corner for the duration 😉 ).
the reading is “locked up” by Bonanno.
then 9/14 we will be continuing the theme of anarchist queer theory with the reading from pink & black attack #6, “preliminary notes on procreation…” brought to us by the copying skills of jean (yay jean!).
